  • Microsoft OneDrive in NSA PRISM   5) SkyDrive (now named OneDrive) is onboarded to PRISM. (pg 26/27)
  • Verizon Using Unblockable ‘Perma-Cookie’ To Send Mobile Web Surfing Info To Advertisers

Verizon Wireless has been subtly inserting an unblockable “perma-cookie” that follows its customers’ online movements and then transmits that information to advertisers, various media reported earlier this week.

According to Wired’s Robert McMillan, Verizon, one of the largest carriers in the US, has been quietly inserting a string of approximately 50 letters, numbers and characters into data flowing between wireless subscribers and the websites that they visit for the past two years.

The company refers to the data as a Unique Identifier Header (UIDH), but McMillan called it a “short-term serial number that advertisers can use to identify you on the web, and it’s the lynchpin of the company’s internet advertising program.” He added that critics call is “a reckless misuse of Verizon’s power as an internet service provider.”

  • I’m terrified of my new TV: Why I’m scared to turn this thing on — and you’d be, too

From facial recognition to personal data collection, this thing is downright scary — and so are the implications

I just bought a new TV. The old one had a good run, but after the volume got stuck on 63, I decided it was time to replace it. I am now the owner of a new “smart” TV, which promises to deliver streaming multimedia content, games, apps, social media and Internet browsing. Oh, and TV too.

The only problem is that I’m now afraid to use it. You would be too — if you read through the 46-page privacy policy.

The amount of data this thing collects is staggering. It logs where, when, how and for how long you use the TV. It sets tracking cookies and beacons designed to detect “when you have viewed particular content or a particular email message.” It records “the apps you use, the websites you visit, and how you interact with content.” It ignores “do-not-track” requests as a considered matter of policy.

It also has a built-in camera — with facial recognition. The purpose is to provide “gesture control” for the TV and enable you to log in to a personalized account using your face. On the upside, the images are saved on the TV instead of uploaded to a corporate server. On the downside, the Internet connection makes the whole TV vulnerable to hackers who have demonstrated the ability to take complete control of the machine.

More troubling is the microphone. The TV boasts a “voice recognition” feature

  • Court Rules Police Can Make Users Unlock iPhones With Fingerprints, But Not Passcodes According to Judge Steven C. Fucci, while a criminal defendant can’t be compelled to hand over a passcode to police officers for the purpose of unlocking a cellular device, law enforcement officials can compel a defendant to give up a fingerprint.
The Fifth Amendment states that “no person shall be compelled in any criminal case to be a witness against himself,” which protects memorized information like passwords and passcodes, but it does not extend to fingerprints in the eyes of the law, as speculated by Wired last year.
Judge Steven C. Frucci ruled this week that giving police a fingerprint is akin to providing a DNA or handwriting sample or an actual key, which the law permits. A pass code, though, requires the defendant to divulge knowledge, which the law protects against, according to Frucci’s written opinion.

  • Exclusive: The Legendary #Anonymous Paypal 14 Speak Out Post-Sentencing  Yesterday the famous Paypal 14 hacktivists were sentenced: all their felony charges were dropped, leaving them with misdemeanors and a bill for restitution. The Cryptosphere correspondent Douglas Lucas was the only journalist actually present at the sentencing. Since the conditions of their probation have now changed, this article marks the first media opportunity for a full half of the PayPal 14 to speak out without fear of ending up with a felony charge in return.
  • An inquiry by congress confirms that ISIS is indeed a CIA creation The U.S. congress confidential report shows CIA, in collarbone with senior Saudi intelligence officials created and funded the so-called Islamic state in Iraq and Syria (ISIS).
The recent report by the congress intelligence committee has found that a network of Saudi-backed jihadists was trained in Jordan by CIA agents and financially assisted by affluent Saudi princes. Elsewhere in the report, it came that CIA was aware a week earlier about ISIS’ imminent move to overrun Mousl, Iraq’s second largest city.

Putin Isn’t Having Any Of It

  • Putin to Western elites: Play-time is over

    • 2. All systems of global collective security now lie in ruins. There are no longer any international security guarantees at all. And the entity that destroyed them has a name: The United States of America.
    • The Cold War ended, but it did not end with the signing of a peace treaty with clear and transparent agreements on respecting existing rules or creating new rules and standards. This created the impression that the so-called ‘victors’ in the Cold War had decided to pressure events and reshape the world to suit their own needs and interests. If the existing system of international relations, international law and the checks and balances in place got in the way of these aims, this system was declared worthless, outdated and in need of immediate demolition.

Pardon the analogy, but this is the way nouveaux riches behave when they suddenly end up with a great fortune, in this case, in the shape of world leadership and domination. Instead of managing their wealth wisely, for their own benefit too of course, I think they have committed many follies.

We have entered a period of differing interpretations and deliberate silences in world politics. International law has been forced to retreat over and over by the onslaught of legal nihilism. Objectivity and justice have been sacrificed on the altar of political expediency. Arbitrary interpretations and biased assessments have replaced legal norms. At the same time, total control of the global mass media has made it possible when desired to portray white as black and black as white.

    • The very notion of ‘national sovereignty’ became a relative value for most countries.
    • The measures taken against those who refuse to submit are well-known and have been tried and tested many times. They include use of force, economic and propaganda pressure, meddling in domestic affairs, and appeals to a kind of ‘supra-legal’ legitimacy when they need to justify illegal intervention in this or that conflict or toppling inconvenient regimes.
    • Let’s ask ourselves, how comfortable are we with this, how safe are we, how happy living in this world, and how fair and rational has it become? Maybe, we have no real reasons to worry, argue and ask awkward questions? Maybe the United States’ exceptional position and the way they are carrying out their leadership really is a blessing for us all, and their meddling in events all around the world is bringing peace, prosperity, progress, growth and democracy, and we should maybe just relax and enjoy it all?

Let me say that this is not the case, absolutely not the case.

A unilateral diktat and imposing one’s own models produces the opposite result. Instead of settling conflicts it leads to their escalation, instead of sovereign and stable states we see the growing spread of chaos, and instead of democracy there is support for a very dubious public ranging from open neo-fascists to Islamic radicals.

Why do they support such people? They do this because they decide to use them as instruments along the way in achieving their goals but then burn their fingers and recoil. I never cease to be amazed by the way that our partners just keep stepping on the same rake, as we say here in Russia, that is to say, make the same mistake over and over

Remedy Against Assumed Authority

  • Ebola update: Maine judge rejects quarantine for nurse Kaci Hickox

A Maine judge on Friday ruled in favor of a nurse who defied a quarantine in a tense standoff with state authorities, saying local health officials failed to prove the need for a stricter order enforcing an Ebola quarantine.

  • Quarantined Nurse Kaci Hickox Misled Public – Works for CDC – Her Attorney was White House Visitor & Tied to Al Sharpton

Kaci Hickox has gotten a lot of mileage out of her emotion-packed description of her ordeal with screening and monitoring of individuals entering or returning to this country from Ebola stricken West Africa, her criticism of forced quarantine and the claim of civil rights violations. But, it might be more mileage than she originally intended. In her article for The Dallas News, Hickox claimed that she worked with Doctors Without Borders caring for Ebola stricken individuals in West Africa. In actuality, Hickox had ties with the Centers for Disease Control by virtue of being an official CDC Epidemic Intelligence Service (EIS) officer.

According to the Daily Caller, Hickox was listed as an “active” EIS officer as recently as July 18, 2014, per the CDC’s own documents.

  • Ebola: question all basic assumptions

To understand what the sellers are selling, you have to go back to the beginning of their story.

You have to restrain yourself from buying the beginning, because if you do buy it, uncritically, you’re now on their river, you’re now traveling in their boat.

And even if you jump off later and claim, “They’re lying!”, you’re still holding the suitcase with their first assumptions in it.

  • Bombshell: scientist finds no reliable evidence Ebola virus ever isolated from a human being Nov3 by Jon Rappoport

Rasnick’s findings are a direct challenge to the basis of the whole “Ebola outbreak.” If indeed the Ebola virus has never been isolated from a human being, the so-called epidemic is unproven.

To say this is shocking would be a vast understatement.

When public-health officials and governments claim there is an epidemic, the burden of proof is on them.

At this point, they must, first and foremost, show someone, somewhere, correctly and directly and undeniably isolated Ebola virus from a human being.

    Let’s see the evidence. Now.

  • 5-year-old boy tested for Ebola in NYC after return from AfricaIsn’t this what 5 yr olds do?

A 5-year-old boy who just returned from West Africa was transported to Bellevue Hospital Sunday with possible Ebola symptoms, according to law-enforcement sources.

The child was vomiting and had a 103-degree fever when he was carried from his Bronx home by EMS workers wearing hazmat suits, neighbors said. “He looked weak,” said a neighbor.

  • Why U.S. Ebola patients get better quicker

To date, the United States has only seen 9 cases of Ebola. One patient has died and all others have recovered with the exception of one New York City doctor still ‘in treatment’ since Oct. 23. So, why are Ebola patients in the U.S. recovering so quickly; but, in Africa, the death rate can be as high as 90 percent?

On Oct. 29, Dr. Bruce Ribner of Emory University Hospital in Atlanta, where nurse Amber Vinson was treated (and fully recovered) says, “the honest answer is we’re not exactly sure.” What’s strange about this comment, by Dr. Ribner, is the obvious omission of his professional knowledge – which was admitted just one day prior to this rather vague remark.

At a press conference, on Oct. 28, Dr. Ribner – the medical director of the infectious diseases unit at Emory University Hospital – made it very clear why some patients do better than others, in dealing with Ebola.

Dr. Ribner said: “Clearly, for any acutely ill patient, nutritional status is extremely important”. He goes on to say, “if you have somebody who is well nourished and you have somebody who is poorly nourished, and they suffer the same illness, infectious or otherwise, the person who has better nutrition has a better survival outlook.”

Unaccountable Assumed Authority

  • Eric Holder Says He Regrets Lying To A Judge And Saying A Reporter Was A ‘Co-Conspirator’ But The Law Made Him Do It Giving a talk at the Washington Ideas Forum, outgoing Attorney General Eric Holder spoke about two different (though, similarly named) journalists that the DOJ has been absolutely egregious in trying to abuse for the sake of questionable leak investigations. Regarding James Risen, the NY Times reporter who the DOJ has been pursuing and demanding he reveal sources concerning a leak (when it’s clear the DOJ already knows the source and is just doing this to destroy Risen’s credibility with sources), Holder says that the DOJ expects “a resolution” in the near future. That’s not too surprising. Holder and the DOJ seem to realize that actually putting Risen in jail (the next step in the process) probably wouldn’t go over very well.  Holder was asked if there was a decision during his tenure that he regretted, and he brought up the Rosen story:

Holder: I think that — I think about the subpoena to the Fox reporter, Rosen. I think that I could have been a little more careful in looking at the language that was contained in the filing that we made with the court. He was labeled as a — as a co-conspirator. I mean, you had to do that as a result of the statute, but there are ways in which I think that could have been done differently, done better. And that’s one of the reasons why I thought the criticism that we received because of that — and the AP matter as well — was something that we had to act upon and why we put in place this review of our — the way in which we interact with the media.

Except, as Julian Sanchez points out, that’s completely bogus. Holder claiming they had to do that because of the statute is flat out opposites-ville. They had to do that because the statute doesn’t allow them to spy on journalists. The law was designed to stop the DOJ from spying on journalists, and so the only way to break that was to lie to the court. The law in question — 18 USC 793 is designed to only apply to the people actually committing the crime of leaking defense information — and not to reporters.

In The Absence of Assumed Authority

  • What Happens When All The Police In A Town Are Removed

It all started over a month ago, right here in Acapulco, Mexico, when I commented to a good friend, “Have you noticed how much better traffic has been lately?”

He responded, “Yes, traffic flow has been so much better… it’s because the Transit Police went on strike.”.

It turned out that was the case.  The Transit Police in Acapulco had went on strike and all of a sudden many local residents were noticing how much better traffic, which can get to gridlock levels during peak holiday periods, had become.

Weeks went on and you could tell that almost everybody had become aware of the lack of transit police and no one was adhering to red lights if there wasn’t any oncoming traffic.  The majority of people began treating red lights like a “yield” sign.  They’d slow down, check that no cars were coming, and if there weren’t, they’d just roll through the red light instead of sitting there for a minute or two, as traffic backed up behind them.

But, it got even better.  The municipal police also then went on strike… and no one noticed.

  • County justifies warrantless raids because cannabis plants are an ‘immediate danger’   Hundreds of individuals in the county have come forward in a joint lawsuit alleging that police conducted warrantless searches and seizures of their property because of the suspicion of unregulated plant growth.
The plaintiffs, whose numbers exceed 200 in the lawsuit, claim that police have systematically raided people who were legally qualified to grow cannabis for medical purposes, destroyed their property, and left them suffering without their medicine. A number of senior-citizen cannabis patients were among the plaintiffs.

In some cases, cops cut off locks and broke into gated properties, all without acquiring a warrant.

During oral arguments in court, Lake County officials remained adamant that the warrantless searches were justified and legal, and that warrants were unnecessary because of exigent circumstances.

“Lake County law enforcement broke through several gates, entering the property of qualified patients without consent, and seizing medical marijuana without a warrant,” attorney Joe Elford stated. United States District Court Judge Thelton Henderson sided with the plaintiffs and gently reminded the police that they have to abide by the constitution in performance of their duties.
Judge Henderson ordered that, “Defendant County of Lake, its officers, agents, and employees, and any other persons acting in active concert or participation therewith, are enjoined from enforcing Ordinance No. 2997 [Measure N] through warrantless searches or summary abatement actions without consent, unless doing so is necessary to prevent immediate physical harm to persons or property, the destruction of evidence for a criminal case, or the escape of a criminal suspect.”
The Court also held that, “denying the preliminary injunction would leave numerous medical marijuana patients in Lake County vulnerable to future warrantless seizures of their medicine, which could lead to significant pain and suffering,” and that in this circumstance, “the protection of constitutional rights and the guarantee of access to state-recognized medicine tilts the scales in favor of Plaintiffs.”
Judge Henderson rejected Lake County’s argument that any improperly-grown plants posed an “immediate threat” to public health and safety in some cases, or that exigent circumstances existed such that warrants could be ignored.

  • NC Bans Guns at the State Fair…Fair Goers Gets Mugged at Gunpoint

The ban on legal guns at the state fair was the result of a lawsuit, presided over by Judge Donald Stephens, who ruled admitted that allowing concealed carry at the fair “may chill crime” but still made the decision to ban guns anyway to fit his agenda because the ruling definitely didn’t fit the law.  North Carolina’s legislature passed a law which the governor signed that expanded the areas in which concealed carry permit holders could take their guns.

Two people leaving the fairgrounds were confronted by armed assailants who took their wallets.  Gun rights activists are placing the blame for the robbery on Agricultural Commissioner Steve Troxler and Judge Stephens.  Paul Valone of Grass Roots North Carolina said:

“By announcing to violent predators that people attending the North Carolina state fair would be unable to protect themselves, the responsibility for this armed robbery of fair-goers lies squarely with Agriculture Commissioner Steve Troxler, who illegally banned concealed at the fair, and…Stephens, who willfully misinterpreted the law to impose his own worldview.”

“As we’ve seen time and again, gun-free zones are dangerous places for law-abiding citizens.”

How many crimes do we need to see in gun free zones before it starts to dawn on these gun grabbers before they realize that their bans actually encourage gun crimes?  Never.

  • Drug War Asininity: Cops Raid Georgia Man’s Home After Mistaking Okra for Weed

Heroic Georgia police task force, in an effort to keep the citizens of Cartersville safe from a plant, descended onto the house of a man who’d dare grow vegetables in his own yard.

Dwayne Perry was awaken Wednesday night to a helicopter hovering over his house and deputies and a K-9 unit in his front yard.

“They were strapped to the gills,” Perry said. “I was scared actually at first, because I didn’t know what was happening.”

The chopper belonged to the heroic task force created by the Georgia governor’s office which is setup to kidnap and cage those who’d dare try to do with their own bodies as they wish.

The overzealous and highly incompetent task force mistook an okra plant, which has five leaves for the cannabis plant which has seven.
