Global War Deceptions

  • Israeli War Jet Shot Down Over Syria

The Israeli fighter jet was targeted over the city of Al-Quneitra on Friday, Iran’s Fars news agency reported on Saturday. Israel regularly violates the Syrian airspace and launches missile attacks against the country.

  • Leaked audio: Israel planned Iran attack

Israeli leaders planned to attack military targets in Iran in recent years, but they were held back due to the opinions of other government and military leaders, according to an audio recording leaked to an Israeli television broadcaster.

  • Reports: Greek Prime Minister To Resign, Announce Snap Elections

In a move that came as a surprise to many, sources have told Reuters that Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras will announce Thursday that he will ‘step down’ from his post as soon as this evening and that new elections for control of the government will be held next month. “The aim is to hold elections on Sept. 20,” the government official reportedly said after Tsipras met with senior party officials and ministers to discuss the government’s next move. Though a call for snap elections was ultimately expected, many assumed they would not be held until after a confidence vote in Parliament. Tsipras’ preemptive resignation was not widely foreseen, though the ruling government is compelled to give over power once the election is officially announced.

  • Tsipras resigns, paving way for snap Greek election

Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras resigned on Thursday, hoping to strengthen his hold on power in snap elections after seven months in office in which he fought Greece’s creditors for a better bailout deal but had to cave in.Tsipras submitted his resignation to President Prokopis Pavlopoulos and asked for the earliest possible election date. Government officials said the aim was to hold the election on Sept. 20, with Tsipras seeking to crush a rebellion in his leftist Syriza party and seal public support for the bailout program, Greece’s third since 2010, that he negotiated.

    • The theory behind Quantitative Easing (QE) is “not well-developed”
    • The evidence in support of Ben Bernanke’s views on the transmission mechanisms whereby asset purchases affect outcomes are “mixed at best”
    • “All of [the] research is problematic,” Williamson continues, as “there is no way to determine whether asset prices move in response to a QE announcement simply because of a signalling
effect, whereby QE matters not because of the direct effects of the asset swaps, but because it provides information about future central bank actions with respect to the policy interest rate.” In other words, it could be that the market is just reading QE as a signal that rates will stay lower for longer and that read is what drives market behavior, not the actual bond purchases.“There is no work, to my knowledge, that establishes a link from QE to the ultimate goals of the Fed inflation and real economic activity. Indeed, casual evidence suggests that QE has been ineffective in increasing inflation.
  • When $8.5 Trillion is Chump Change

Three cheers for Reuters pointing out that the Pentagon can’t explain what it did with $8.5 trillion that taxpayers gave it between 1996 and 2013.

Three trillion cheers for  a blogger who is pointing out that this fact renders many other concerns ludicrous, and recommending that people bring it up at every opportunity:

“What’s that? Body cameras for all cops will be too expensive? How about we find 1/10,000th of the money we sent to the Pentagon.”

“Oh really? There’s 500 million in provable food stamp fraud going to poor people how about the $8.5 TRILLION the pentagon can’t account for?”

“Oh really? You think Obamacare is going to cost us almost a trillion dollars over 15 years? How about the 8.5 Trillion that just disappeared into the ether at the Pentagon? What’s your take on that?”

“Oh really, you’re concerned about deficit spending and the debt? Fully 1/3 of the national debt is money we sent the Pentagon and they can’t tell us where it went. It’s just gone.”

“College for everyone will cost too much? You must be really pissed at the 8.5 Trillion, with a ‘t’, dollars the pentagon’s spent and can’t tell us where it went.”

This is all very good as far as it goes, whether you like the body cameras or corporate health insurance or other items or not. We could add an unlimited number of items including some
expressing our concern for the other 96% of humanity:

“You can end starvation and unclean water for tens of billions of dollars; what about that $8.5
    trillion?” Et cetera.

But here’s my real concern. The $8.5 trillion is just the bit that the Pentagon can’t account for.
That’s far from all the money it was given.

Reality Baffles Them

  • Pluto Sends Planetary Scientists Back to the Drawing Board

Today, physicist Wal Thornhill continues his discussion of NASA’s New Horizons mission to the dwarf planet Pluto. The mission has already provided a number of surprises for planetary scientists. The tiny planet’s geological activity, its apparent age, the stunning features on its moons and more all defy many fundamental ideas in planetary science. As principal investigator Alan Stern recently stated, Pluto is “going to send a lot of geophysicists back to the drawing board.” But are these discoveries surprising from an Electric Universe perspective?

  • Scientists forced back to the drawing board

Hwang’s sudden downfall is likely to set stem-cell research back by years, writes science editor Robin McKie.
The aim of Hwang Woo-suk and his colleagues was simple. By making cloned embryos of adult humans, they would create a s source of cells that could replace damaged or lost tissue. The ravaged brains of Alzheimer’s victims would one day be provided with new nerve cells; diabetics would be given pancreatic cells to replace those killed off by their condition; and victims of cardiac disease would be treated with fresh heart muscle cells. The promise was immense.
The trouble is that apart from Hwang’s, few scientific groups have so far produced much in the way of results that could, in any way, be described as encouraging. Most stem-cell scientists were following his lead. ‘Researchers now face a long slog to rebuild the foundations of their field,’ as a special report in Nature, the international journal which has been painstaking in its pursuit of the Korean scientist, put it last week.

  • Scientists Discover a Jewel at the Heart of Quantum Physics

Physicists reported this week the discovery of a jewel-like geometric object that dramatically simplifies calculations of particle interactions and challenges the notion that space and time are fundamental components of reality.“This is completely new and very much simpler than anything that has been done before,” said Andrew Hodges, a mathematical physicist at Oxford University who has been following the work.

The revelation that particle interactions, the most basic events in nature, may be consequences of geometry significantly advances a decades-long effort to reformulate quantum field theory, the body of laws describing elementary particles and their interactions. Interactions that were previously calculated with mathematical formulas thousands of terms long can now be described by computing the volume of the corresponding jewel-like “amplituhedron,” which yields an equivalent one-term expression.

“The degree of efficiency is mind-boggling,” said Jacob Bourjaily, a theoretical physicist at Harvard
University and an author of the first of two papers detailing the new idea.

Ignorance Kills

  • Kiwis exposed to radiation in seafood – study

Researchers measured levels of radioactive caesium and polonium in 36 kinds of seafood.

Levels of caesium were of minimal dietary concern, but levels of polonium could “contribute significantly to the dietary does of ionising radiation for high seafood consumers, although the magnitude varies considerably depending on the composition of seafood species consumed,” the researchers said.

They found levels in New Zealand were the same as found in other countries, which suggested the radiation was a worldwide result of global nuclear testing rather than the 2011 Fukushima incident.

  • Paralytic Shellfish Poisoning

    Definition

Paralytic Shellfish Poisoning (PSP) occurs after eating toxin-containing bivalve shellfish. The toxins are produced by toxic marine dinoflagellates (a small algae) that are sometimes but not always associated with red tides. There are several species of dinoflagellates that can produce toxin and these include Alexandrium spp, Pyrodinium bahamense var compressum, and Gymnodinium catenatum.

The main type of toxin associated with paralytic shellfish poisoning is saxitoxin. Saxitoxin is water-soluble and heat-stable (cooking won’t destroy it). There are over 20 known toxins formed from either saxitoxin or its derivatives.

    Symptoms

    • Tingling (pins and needles feeling or paresthesia), and
    • Numbness, spreading from lips and mouth to face, neck and extremities
    • Dizziness
    • Arm and leg weakness, paralysis
    • Respiratory failure and in severe cases, death
    • Headache
    • Nausea
    • Vomiting

Symptoms start quickly, median time between ingestion and onset is 1 hour (between 30 minutes to 3 hours).

Progression and intensity of symptoms vary with the intensity of the toxin poisoning. In severe cases, muscle paralysis, respiratory failure and death can occur within 12 hours.

    Causes

Paralytic shellfish poisoning is caused from the ingestion of toxin-contaminated bivalve shellfish and crustaceans. Algal blooms of dinoflagellates, usually during the warmer months of June to October, result in toxin accumulation in filter feeders such as bivalves. The most common fish species affected are clams; mussels; whelks, moon-shells and dogwinkles; oysters; whole scallops; crabs and lobster hepatopancreas (tomalley).

  • Oregon Vet Ramps Up Campaign Warning About Xylitol and Dogs

An Oregon veterinarian is expanding efforts to get the word out that a sugar alcohol-derived sweetener used in an increasing number of foods poses a serious, and potentially fatal, threat to dogs. Dr. Jason Nicholas of Portland (Preventive Vet) has posted a list of products containing, along with two online petitions seeking warning labels from manufacturers and related action from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). “We’re approaching 200 [signatures] on the manufacturer’s one and close to 150 on the FDA one,” Nicholas told Food Safety News. “The more people we can get on board, the better. We’re making some headway, both from pet owners and from vets, who are really eager for this to happen.” Xylitol, which has about one-third the calories of regular sugar, is being used in an ever-expanding list of food and other products. These products include five brands of peanut and other nutbutters, four brands of chocolate, some “sugar-free” or “sugarless” ice creams and yogurts, chewable vitamins, “sugarless” gum, a long list of body, face and home care products, and many more. People often give peanut butter, or other nut butters, to dogs as a treat, and pets occasionally get into the other listed items, especially those with a sweet taste.

Medicinal Cannabis Poison

  • Cannabis Extracts Laden with Pesticides, Oregonian Finds

Oregon medical marijuana patients are often inhaling cancer-causing pesticides when they buy and use the state’s legal medical cannabis concentrates on dispensary shelves. That’s the verdict of The Oregonian, which published a damning expose on the sorry quality of the state’s extracts, despite legal mandates they be lab-tested. As illustrated in the video below, many cannabis growers are spraying their crops with toxic pesticides to kill bugs and infections that would otherwise cause financial ruin for the farmers. But these plants are later subjected to chemical extraction processes that concentrate both the good and the bad in the plant, raising THC levels and pesticide concentrations. Just two of ten extracts screened by The Oregonian were free of pesticides, three should have failed prior lab tests and not made it to store shelves. One marketed as “organic” contained flea and tick killers, and one had ant and cockroach killers at 21 times the legal limit. One extract had traces of seven different pesticide chemical compounds.

  • A tainted high

Dab Society Dutch Treat, a potent cannabis extract sold to medical marijuana patients, sailed through state-mandated pesticide testing. The results were printed on the label, backed by an official report. Workers at a Southeast Portland dispensary were happy to share the lab certificate. All you had to do was ask.

But, in fact, two laboratories commissioned by The Oregonian/OregonLive found pesticides in the same sample of Dutch Treat at levels above what the state allows.

    It wasn’t an isolated case.

A combination of lax state rules, inconsistent lab practices and inaccurate test results has allowed pesticide-laced products to enter the medical marijuana market, The Oregonian/OregonLive has found.

Marijuana that fails a pesticide screen is not supposed to be sold to patients. But two other cannabis products in addition to Dutch Treat also tested above acceptable levels for pesticides.

Unadulterated Cannabinoid Counter-measure

  • Cannabis and Cannabinoids

  • Have any preclinical (laboratory or animal) studies been conducted using Cannabis or cannabinoids? Preclinical studies of cannabinoids have investigated the following activities: Antitumor activity Studies in mice and rats have shown that cannabinoids may inhibit tumor growth by causing cell death, blocking cell growth, and blocking the development of blood vessels needed by tumors to grow. Laboratory and animal studies have shown that cannabinoids may be able to kill cancer cells while protecting normal cells.
  • A study in mice showed that cannabinoids may protect against inflammation of the colon and may have potential in reducing the risk of colon cancer, and possibly in its treatment.
  • Stimulating appetite
  • Many animal studies have shown that delta-9-THC and other cannabinoids stimulate appetite and can increase food intake.
  • Pain relief
  • Cannabinoid receptors (molecules that bind cannabinoids) have been studied in the brain, spinal cord, and nerve endings throughout the body to understand their roles in pain relief.
  • Cannabinoids have been studied for anti-inflammatory effects that may play a role in pain relief.

Medical Deceit Is Profitable

  • New Sex Drug is Definitely not “Viagra for Women”

After decades of men getting their “sex drugs” approved by the government, women finally got one of their own. Sort of.The announcement this week that the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) had approved the female sexual-dysfunction drug Addyi (generic name flibanserin) was characterized by many as “Viagra for women.”That characterization is very misleading, owing to the fact that Addyi has a completely different approach than Viagra and other pills developed for men’s sexuality. Viagra, Cialis, and others address increasing the blood flow to the penis. They do not increase libido in men. Addyi is supposed to help women with low libido, or Hypoactive Sexual Desire Disorder, which is defined as “persistently or recurrently deficient (or absent) sexual fantasies and desire for sexual activity” in either gender, according to The Atlantic. Rather than affecting women’s genitals, which are typically not the source of the problem, it is designed to alter their brain chemistry by rebalancing the neurotransmitters with the goal of increasing sexual desire.National Consumers League executive director Sally Greenberg called Addyi “the biggest breakthrough for women’s sexual health since the pill.” But the evidence appears to cast doubt on that claim.Testing of the drug showed only modest results in accomplishing the drug’s mission of improving female sexual desire. Its effectiveness rate was between 8% and 13%, while causing “side effects like fainting, dizziness, and low blood pressure, many of which were found to be exacerbated byalcohol and hormonal contraception,” The Atlantic’s Cari Romm reported. (The effect of alcohol on use of the drug wasn’t even properly tested on women, since 23 of the 25 test subjects were men, he noted.)It’s not the first time that Addyi scored low in fulfilling its manufacturer’s promises. The drug was originally created to act as an anti-depressant, but it was found to be ineffective for that purpose. So it was decided to instead promote it as a cure for low female sexual desire.

Agency Plunder Partnerships

  • Private Contractor Conducting Work that Led to Toxic Waste Spill in Colorado River has Received more than $350 Million in Federal Contracts

The story of millions of gallons of mining waste being released into a Colorado river has shifted in focus from federal regulators overseeing the operation to the private contractor hired to do the work.

When 3 million gallons of heavy-metal laced water first poured from the Gold King mine into the Animas River, it was the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) in the spotlight. Now, it has come out that those working at the mine when the waste poured out worked for Environmental Restoration LLC, based in Missouri.

Environmental Restoration frequently contracts for the EPA, collecting more than $350 million in business from the agency.
It has worked on major environmental cleanups, including the 2010 Deepwater Horizon spill in the Gulf of Mexico and the pipeline break into the Kalamazoo River. The company also has done work for the departments of Transportation and Homeland Security, collecting another $17 million.

The EPA has not publicly blamed the company for the Gold King accident.

Kate Zimmerman, the public lands policy director at the National Wildlife Foundation, told the St Louis Post-Dispatch that it’s hard to tell which entity is responsible for the spill. “EPA is technically responsible in that they were the ones to touch it last,” Zimmerman said. “But this was sort of a disaster that’s been waiting to happen up there.”

  • EPA Knew Possibility of Wastewater Spill in Animas River

U.S. officials knew of the potential for a catastrophic “blowout” of poisonous wastewater from an inactive gold mine, yet appeared to have only a cursory plan to deal with such an event when a government cleanup team triggered a 3-million-gallon spill, according to internal documents released by the Environmental Protection Agency. The EPA released the documents late Friday following weeks of prodding from The Associated Press and other media organizations. While shedding some light on the circumstances surrounding the accident, the newly disclosed information also raises more questions about whether enough was done to prevent it. The Aug. 5 spill came as workers excavated the entrance to the idled Gold King Mine near Silverton, Colorado, unleashing a torrent of toxic water that fouled rivers in three states.A June 2014 work order for a planned cleanup noted the mine had not been accessible since 1995, when the entrance partially collapsed.” This condition has likely caused impounding of water behind the collapse,” the report said. “Conditions may exist that could result in a blowout of the blockages and cause a release of large volumes of contaminated mine waters and sediment from inside the mine.” A May 2015 action plan produced by an EPA contractor, Environmental Restoration LLC, also noted the potential for a blowout. The May plan also called for a pond that would be used to manage the mine water and prevent contaminants from entering waterways. That pond was not completed.

  • Federal Negligence Leads to Catastrophic Wildfires Across the West

As massive wildfires blaze across the West this week, the need to address the increasing wildfire threat is even more apparent. According to the Agriculture and Interior Departments, there are currently 19,000 interagency personnel fighting wildfires across 13 states. The Soda Fire that burned across southern Idaho and eastern Oregon consumed roughly 300,000 acres of rangeland, threatening the homes and lives of residents, livestock and wildlife. While Washington bureaucrats call for more funds to suppress the growing fires, the Public Lands Council and the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association sent a letter to the White House today stressing the importance of proper natural resource management in order to help prevent these catastrophic events, and furthermore, the gross negligence and mismanagement of our nation’s forests and rangeland by the U.S. Forest Service and Bureau of Land Management. According to the U.S. Forest Service, wildfire suppression now costs the agency more than $1 billion annually and for the first time in its 110-year history, the agency is spending more than half of its budget on wildfire suppression. When the cost of suppression exceeds the budgeted amount, USFS is forced to real locate funds from other programs to cover the cost of fire suppression, known as fire-borrowing. While PLC and NCBA believe that having fire suppression funds available to cover the cost of fighting fire and prevent fire-borrowingis important, the organizations firmly believe that proper forest and rangeland management is the key to reducing catastrophic wildfires in the first place. PLC President Brenda Richards said the mismanagement of federally-owned forests and rangelands has created great economic hardship and danger for ranchers that depend upon the land.“ This year’s fire season has proven once again the federal mismanagement of our forests and rangeland,” said Richards, whose ranch has suffered damage in the current Idaho/Oregon.

Hype Or Nature

  • Two Major US Aquifers Found to Be Saturated with Uranium

Researchers from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln  have just completed a comprehensive analysis of roughly 275,000 water samples from 62,000 locations across the United States. These samples were mostly derived from two massive underground aquifers that supply drinking water for millions of people, and what they reveal about the safety of drinking water in America is absolutely horrifying. They found that the parts of the High Plains Aquifer(also often referred to as the Ogallala) is saturated with uranium at a level that is 89 times higher than the EPA’s safe limit. The southern half of California’s Central Valley was even worse, with a uranium concentration that is 180 times higher than the EPA’s“maximum contaminant level.”
