• Wolf Spirit Animal Meaning

  Ancient cultures and indigenous people believed that animals and humans shared the same spiritual essence between each other.  They also believed that these animals are attracted to us and present themselves to us in specific moments of our lives to reveal messages.

  The Wolf Totem symbolizes:

    Intelligence and Instincts

    A Wolf possesses a high intelligence and strong instincts, and these have been observed in their hunting strategies, habitat creation, and migration habits.

    When a Wolf presents itself as your spirit animal, it could be an expression of your sharp intelligence and strong instincts.  When the Wolf appears, either physically, through meditation or through a dream, it’s often a way of telling you that you’re either using your intelligence and instincts well to solve a challenging life situation, or that you’re not using them at all.

    The Wolf represents the pathfinder.  He is a guide that helps you to discover when you are being misguided, or led correctly, when using your instincts.

    Having a Wolf as a power animal serves to emphasize your levels of trust or mistrust in your instincts and intuition.  Totem animals, as a whole, make you aware and introspective of your current emotional state, and wolves can serve as omens or guides to show you that which is making you emotionally unbalanced.

  • BROADCAST CORRECTION NOTE: In mentioning the Tarot and the Fool, I only described the Hanged Man but didn’t mention it by name. My discussion went to the meaning of both when consistently occurring together as those parts appear applicable to the Wolf Totem in action. I failed to clearly delineate this.

  This is the “Wolf Clan”.^[1] The Aniwaya, or Wolf Clan, has been known throughout time to be the largest clan. During the time of the Peace Chief and War Chief government setting, the War Chief would come from this clan. Wolves are known as protectors. Historically, the Wolf Clan was the largest and most important among the Cherokee. A few members of this clan are said to be extremely powerful they are called alphas. Ex. Alpha Gălă-gi′na etc. th^[8]

• Open Data Projects Are Fueling the Fight Against Police Misconduct
  

  Samantha Seda’s client, a 16-year-old foster child from Far Rockaway, New York, had no criminal history when he was arrested in September, accused of having pulled out a gun and fired one shot in the air. Even though he had no priors and no relatives who could post bail, a judge set the amount at $100,000, and as he sat in jail for over a month, the boy lost his spot at the foster home where he had been living.

  Seda, a Legal Aid attorney representing adolescents charged as adults in Queens, thought the allegations against her client were dubious and was looking for a way to get him out on bail. That’s when she decided to look into the officers named in the complaint against him. What she discovered stunned her.

  Tracking Police Misconduct

  In the past, when Seda wanted to learn more about an officer connected to one of her cases, she would scour legal databases and news archives in search of any relevant information. If she somehow knew an officer’s history would matter to the case, she might file a public records request for complaints filed against him or try to subpoena public agencies for that information — a cumbersome process for a public defender handling dozens of cases, and one with no guarantee of success. “It would have been very hard and it would have taken months,” she said. “It may have never happened.”

  Most police misconduct goes unreported, particularly in less extreme cases and in more disenfranchised communities, but complaints filed with police departments and civilian review boards, as well as lawsuits, can point to significant histories of abuse tied to specific officers and precincts. In most cases, however, a citizen who becomes the victim of police abuse has next to no way of knowing if that officer is a repeat offender or has a history of targeting certain people, say, or sexual harassment.

  But that situation is beginning to change — as a growing number of police accountability groups are starting to bypass the departments by aggregating and distributing misconduct history databases on their own.

  Earlier this year, Seda was trained in using the Cop Accountability Project, a database created by New York’s Legal Aid Society that pools civil rights lawsuits, criminal court decisions, and a variety of other public and private sources like attorney notes and social media content to compile misconduct profiles on nearly 9,000 New York City officers. The database assembles a wealth of information that could otherwise take months to gather, as well as some that wouldn’t be available anywhere else, and it has proved to be a game-changer for the attorneys using it.

Last Court of No Resort

• Supreme Court turns down Hage lawsuit appeal
  

  The U.S. Supreme Court won’t review a court decision that stripped deceased Nevada rancher Wayne Hage of a legal victory against the federal government.

  In 2013, the estate of Hage — an icon of the “Sagebrush Rebellion” against federal land policies — prevailed in a lawsuit filed by federal agencies that alleged his cattle trespassed on public land.

  U.S. District Judge Robert Jones ruled that Hage’s cattle could legally cross federal property to access a stream in which he owned water rights. The judge also found that federal officials had engaged in a “literal, intentional conspiracy” against him.

  The 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals reversed that decision earlier this year, ruling that water right ownership doesn’t give ranchers the right to run cattle across federal land.

  Mark Pollot, attorney for Hage’s estate, claimed the 9th Circuit misinterpreted the law and undermined water rights across the West.

  He asked the Supreme Court to review the case, but that request has now been denied.

Unbelievable, Truly Astonishing

• Oregon militants found not guilty in ‘unbelievable, truly astonishing’ verdict
  

  A jury Thursday delivered a stunning across-the-board acquittal to the leaders and participants in the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge occupation and a remarkable blow to the federal government as it tries to tamp down a national movement led by a Nevada family to open public lands to ranchers, miners and loggers.

  The verdicts finding Ammon Bundy, older brother Ryan Bundy and five others not guilty of a federal conspiracy drew elation from defense attorneys who spent five weeks arguing that the armed takeover amounted to a time-honored tradition of First Amendment protest and civil disobedience.

  The specific charges, as noted here Thursday, were “conspiring to impede federal employees through intimidation, threat or force. Four had additional charges of having guns in a federal facility, and two were charged with theft of government property.”

  A juror spoke via email to Oregon Live about how that decision on the Feds’ part, one almost certainly motivated by a desire to get potentially more prison time, messed them up:

  “It should be known that all 12 jurors felt that this verdict was a statement regarding the various failures of the prosecution to prove ‘conspiracy’ in the count itself – and not any form of affirmation of the defense’s various beliefs, actions or aspirations,” Juror 4 wrote Friday in a lengthy email to The Oregonian/OregonLive….

  Juror 4 noted the panel couldn’t simply rely on the defendants’ “defining actions” [that is, the occupation per se] to convict….

  “But we were not asked to judge on bullets and hurt feelings, rather to decide if any agreement was made with an illegal object in mind,” the [juror] wrote. “It seemed this basic, high standard of proof was lost upon the prosecution throughout.”….

  Defense lawyers urged jurors in closing arguments not to mix-up the “effect” of the occupation – which undoubtedly kept federal employees from doing their jobs – from the “intent” of the occupiers…

  “Inference, while possibly compelling, proved to be insulting or inadequate to 12 diversely situated people as a means to convict,” the juror wrote. “The air of triumphalism that the prosecution brought was not lost on any of us, nor was it warranted given their burden of proof.”…

  It seems this juror has some of the same type of friends on social networking as I do:

  [the juror] said he is “baffled” by what he described as observers’ “flippant sentiments” in the wake of the jury’s acquittals.

  “Don’t they know that ‘not guilty’ does not mean innocent?” he wrote. “It was not lost on us that our verdict(s) might inspire future actions that are regrettable, but that sort of thinking was not permitted when considering the charges before us.”….

  The smoking gun point proving the prosecutors tripped themselves up with their desire for vengeance on the occupiers:

  … many of the jurors questioned the judge about why the federal government chose the “conspiracy charge.” He said he learned that a potential alternate charge, such as criminal trespass, wouldn’t have brought as significant a penalty.

  The charge of conspiring to impede federal employees from carrying out their official work through intimidation, threat or force brings a maximum sentence of six years in prison.

  Federal criminal trespass is at worst a misdemeanor, which generally has a maximum possible prison penalty of a year. The structure of the charges meant that if the conspiracy part wasn’t proven, the specific gun charge also fell.

   

• US interior secretary, officials warn of ‘impacts’ from Bundy brothers’ acquittal
  

  The US interior secretary is urging vigilance, following the Bundy brothers being found not guilty of crimes relating to a six-week armed Oregon standoff. A Bureau of Land Management chief echoed the message, warning of “potential impacts of the verdict.”

  “As we digest the jury’s verdict, our foremost priority continues to be the safety, security and well-being of people who comprise the federal family and those visiting America’s public lands,” US Secretary of the Interior Sally Jewell wrote in a statement addressed to all department employees. “In the coming days and weeks, I encourage you to take care of yourselves and your fellow employees. The armed occupation in Oregon was and continues to be a reminder that employees in all offices should remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to your supervisor and, where appropriate, law enforcement officials.”

  The University of Florida is offering counseling services for students who are offended by costumes this Halloween.
  A memo released by UF on Monday encouraged students to think about their ‘choices of costumes and themes’.
  ‘Some Halloween costumes reinforce stereotypes of particular races, genders, cultures, or religions,’ the statement read.
  ‘Regardless of intent, these costumes can perpetuate negative stereotypes, causing harm and offense to groups of people.’

   

• Police Could Investigate ‘Offensive’ Halloween Costumes At MA University
  

  Students at a Massachusetts University are being threatened with campus police investigations and “serious disciplinary sanctions” if they dare to wear Halloween costumes that could be deemed ‘offensive.’

  According to a letter sent to the presidents of fraternities and sororities on campus at Tufts University, “Greek Brothers and Sisters have worn costumes that appropriate cultures and reproduce stereotypes on race, gender, sexuality, immigrant or socioeconomic status.”

  “Outfits relating to tragedy, controversy, or acts of violence are also inappropriate,” the letter states. “It is our mission to promote spaces that allow members of the Tufts community to have fun without feeling as though any part of their identity is being misrepresented or targeted.”

  The letter warns that “there are consequences for wearing an offensive costume,” and quotes the Dean of Student Affairs, Mary Pat McMahon, as describing the consequences “for students whose actions make others in our community feel threatened or unsafe, or who direct conduct towards others that is offensive or discriminatory.”

• UNESCO adopts controversial Jerusalem resolution
  

  UNESCO’s executive board on Tuesday approved a resolution that Israel says denies the deep historic Jewish connection to holy sites in Jerusalem — and that has angered Israel’s government and many Jews around the world.

  The resolution is not expected to have concrete impact on Jerusalem itself, but it aggravated diplomatic tensions around the city and within UNESCO, which is also facing a dispute between Japan and China that threatens funding.

  It’s the latest of several measures at UNESCO over decades that Israelis see as evidence of ingrained anti-Israel bias within the United Nations, where Israel and its allies are far outnumbered by Arab countries and their supporters. Israel’s concern has mounted since UNESCO states admitted Palestine as a member in 2011.

  The resolution, titled “Occupied Palestine,” lays out rules about the preservation of holy sites in Jerusalem, and uses only the Islamic name for a hilltop compound sacred to both Jews and Muslims. The site includes the Western Wall, a remnant of the biblical temple and the holiest site where Jews can pray.

  Israel suspended cooperation with UNESCO on Friday, a day after the U.N. cultural agency adopted a draft resolution that Israel says denies the deep historic Jewish connection to holy sites in Jerusalem.

  UNESCO’s draft resolution, titled “Occupied Palestine” and sponsored by several Arab countries, uses only the Islamic name for a hilltop compound sacred to both Jews and Muslims, which includes the Western Wall, a remnant of the biblical temple and the holiest site where Jews can pray. The validated resolution is expected early next week, but the wording is unlikely to change.

  Israelis and many Jews around the world viewed it as the latest example of an ingrained anti-Israel bias at the United Nations, where Israel and its allies are far outnumbered by Arab countries and their supporters.

• US, Saudis to grant 9,000 ISIS fighters free passage from Iraqi Mosul to Syria – source
  

  The US and Saudi Arabia have agreed to grant free passage to thousands of Islamic State militants before the Iraqi city of Mosul is stormed. The jihadists will be redeployed to fight against the government in Syria, a military-diplomatic source told RIA Novosti.
  “More than 9,000 Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS, ISIL) militants will be redeployed from Mosul to the eastern regions of Syria to carry out a major offensive operation, which involves capturing Deir ez-Zor and Palmyra,” the source said.

  A silent war continues, led by the west, ignored by the media, writes John Pilger.

  The American journalist, Edward Bernays, is often described as the man who invented modern propaganda.

  The nephew of Sigmund Freud, the pioneer of psycho-analysis, it was Bernays who coined the term “public relations” as a euphemism for spin and its deceptions.

  In 1929, he persuaded feminists to promote cigarettes for women by smoking in the New York Easter Parade – behaviour then considered outlandish. One feminist, Ruth Booth, declared, “Women! Light another torch of freedom! Fight another sex taboo!”

  Bernays’ influence extended far beyond advertising. His greatest success was his role in convincing the American public to join the slaughter of the First World War. The secret, he said, was “engineering the consent” of people in order to “control and regiment [them]according to our will without their knowing about it”.

  He described this as “the true ruling power in our society” and called it an “invisible government”.

  Today, the invisible government has never been more powerful and less understood. In my career as a journalist and film-maker, I have never known propaganda to insinuate our lives as it does now, and to go unchallenged.

• European Union Offers a Million Debit Cards for Syrian Refugees in Turkey
  

  In an effort to keep more Syrian migrants from flooding into Europe, the European Union (EU) is providing funding for a million debit cards for Syrian refugees in Turkey.

  Turkey is currently home to some 3 million Syrian migrants who have been prevented from traveling to Europe thanks to an accord between the EU and the Turkish government that went into effect last March.

  Life in Turkey for many of the migrants is reportedly very harsh, and their presence has also placed an added economic burden on their host country. To combat both of these problems the EU has launched an ambitious aid program of more than $375 million, targeting a million of the neediest Syrians in Turkey.

  The debit cards, called the Kizilay card (Turkish for “Red Crescent”), are meant to ease the economic burden on Syrian migrants as well as provide a substantial cash injection into the Turkish economy.
