Give Him Back

The new documentary titled Give Him Back, telling the ongoing "Baby Cyrus" story whose removal from his parents’ care in 2022 sparked protests, arrests, a highly publicized legal battle, and ultimately a multimillion-dollar civil judgment.

This documentary is set to premiere next month in Lehi, Utah.

The film is directed by Justin Griffin, with award-winning filmmaker Steve Rey Sorensen attached, produced by Spotlight Documentary in association with Sacred Honor Media.

It features accounts from Ammon Bundy, Lisa Bundy, Levi Anderson, Marissa Anderson, Diego Rodriguez, Miranda Chavoya, Dan Hill, Maggie Goff, Robert Jones, and Jeremy Lister.

The background, for those who don't know the story:

Cyrus was about seven and a half months old when his parents, Levi and Marissa Anderson, grew concerned about him struggling to tolerate solid food after weaning, and started seeking answers from specialists after their family doctor couldn't find the cause.

By March 2022 another episode of vomiting sent them back to St. Luke's Meridian Medical Center, where staff noted he'd lost a slight amount of weight and asked for a follow-up appointment.

When the hospital called to reschedule, Marissa — sick herself at the time — missed the call. The hospital reported the family to Child Protective Services for neglect, and CPS brought in law enforcement. Police surrounded Levi and Marissa's vehicle at a gas station. They were both detained, and Cyrus was taken into the hospital's custody.

The next day, family and friends gathered at the hospital to protest and demand his return. Ammon Bundy — an independent candidate for Idaho governor at the time, and a close friend of Cyrus's grandfather, Diego Rodriguez — organized the protests, calling it a "medical kidnapping."

Ammon was arrested on a trespassing charge during the protests. Under the public pressure, St. Luke's released Cyrus back to his parents after about a week.

The fallout didn't end there. St. Luke's turned around and sued Ammon and Diego for defamation, alleging the doxxing of hospital staff and a judge — a case that started out as a $50,000 claim and, over time, it ballooned into a jury judgment of more than $50 million against them.
