Today is Todd Engel's Re-Birth Day.
Todd was reborn into this world to live wild and free, and that's exactly what he's done ever since.
Todd went to Bunkerville, Nevada, in 2014 to stand with Cliven Bundy against a federal government that had already shown it would knock down a cancer-survivor grandmother to make a point.
For that, the feds hunted him down, locked him up, and hauled him into a Las Vegas courtroom, and got a jury to convict him on obstruction and interstate travel in aid of extortion.
A judge who never should have taken his right to represent himself away from him sentenced him to fourteen years.
He served four and a half of them before the Ninth Circuit stepped in and said what a lot of us already knew: that trial violated rights, plain and simple.
They vacated the conviction. Rather than try to try him again and risk airing out any more of their own misconduct, federal prosecutors dropped the whole case, with prejudice, so it could never be brought against him again.
No stigma, no record, no strings.
Todd returned to Idaho with nothing left to his name but his faith and his word, both still fully intact.
That's the kind of man they couldn't break, no matter how many years they tried to take from him.
