Vincent Easley II Independent Journalism

Local Knowledge, Independent Journalism, and Frontline Coverage

Southern Nevada isn't just a region I've covered as media—it has been my second home since 1969. Long before national news crews descended on Bunkerville, I lived, studied, and worked across Clark County, from Las Vegas to Mesquite and the Moapa Valley.

I came to know this landscape intimately, exploring its mountains, mesas, and desert terrain on horseback, by off-road and four-wheel-drive vehicles across the Virgin Mountains, Mormon Mesa, Lake Mead, and Meadow Valley.

That decades-long connection provided a deep, personal understanding of both the land and its communities.

That roots-in-the-dirt, boots-on-the-ground perspective became the foundation for my reporting on a Western range dispute spanning decades.

While the story captured global headlines during the 2014 standoff, the core conflict traces back to the early 1990s. As NGO campaigns pushed to eliminate grazing and the Bureau of Land Management forced neighboring ranches out of business through mounting regulations, Cliven Bundy refused to renew his BLM permit, asserting long-standing vested rights.

He became the last rancher standing in Southern Nevada, sparking a multi-decade battle over constitutional authority and public land access.

My coverage went far beyond formal press conferences. Over the years, I spent weeks in the Bundy home, riding the range alongside the cowboys catching cattle, repairing water lines, and gaining direct insight into their lives and worldview.

When federal agents faced off against locals and supporters from across the country in April 2014, my backyard became a national flashpoint.

On the ground with a cellphone, I captured raw, unfiltered exchanges as citizen journalism took off, documenting field interactions and Cliven Bundy's press updates as events unfolded.

When the dispute moved to the U.S. District Court in Las Vegas in late 2017, my reporting followed United States v. Bundy et al. into the courtroom.

Day after day, I provided ongoing updates on proceedings and conducted direct interviews on the courthouse steps until Chief U.S. District Judge Gloria Navarro declared a mistrial and dismissed all charges with prejudice due to prosecutorial misconduct.

That work evolved into a comprehensive digital repository of written beat reporting, field video, and retrospective analysis. The primary-source archive and full catalog of reporting are available across these platforms:
