Who the Hell is Unkle Bonehead?
I'm just a dude that wants to keep my Freedoms and still have fun. Thank you for reading!
Lol. But seriously, there's a lot more history that has led me here. So here's a quick bullet point list with out to much of the details of my back story.
- 1995 - 2021 Over the Road and local Truck driver for the day job(s). Moved into the Safety Department for a medium sized trucking company in the mid-west and manages 3 fleets of truck drivers safety performance and ratings.
- 2003 - now dad/husband/podcaster/blogger/radio presenter/guitarist for Slight Case of Death/independent musician.
That's as brief as I can possibly make it but I will go into a few more details that led me on the quest of Freedom.
2010 - Now
I made the move to using Linux on my computers. I switched because I was a cheap skate and didnt want to pay to upgrade to Windows 8. I wasn't a nerd or a geek either. I didn't even graduate high school back in 1988, I was kicked out.
But that first install of Linux (Ubuntu 10.04 for the nerds reading this) set me on a philosophical path that I didn't expect to find myself on. Linux is free and open source. Share the code and people build on it and share their code back. The concept blew my mind. It was actually a very liberating feeling to be able to make my computer hardware do what I told it to do. To have the software do what I wanted it to do.
Around the same time Facebook, Twitter and other online services was constantly updating their privacy policies that were restricting more and more of users privacy. Big tech had begun the slow creep of death to our on line freedom. The same that governments have been doing for decades. Now they are doing it hand in hand and that slow creep is getting a lot faster.
So I had heard that if you really want to be free you need to host your own data and services. I looked high and low on how to do this cheaply (read free). I found out it's actually very possible to do. But you really need to have a degree in computer science and programming to do it.
But not so much today. There has been huge advancements in protecting and preserving users rights and data. But big tech is fighting it and doing everything they can to maintain their control over us. They see us as products to sell to advertisers. There are better places to go than the Facebook's and Instagram's. There is a whole internet out there that is just waiting to be discovered.
That's what I went looking for and am still looking for to this day, exploring the world of the ether. Looking for my little personal island in that ether. Where there is no big tech, no government boot on my back. Where I can breathe free, speak free and think free.
